After three excruciatingly hot days, week two of the 2010 USTA Texas Adult League Championships finally came to an end. The temperatures, as well as the play, were hot all weekend, making the conditions difficult for all. But in the end, seven teams won titles.

In the Ladies’ Lonestar division, Wild Dallas exacted a bit of revenge on their counterparts from the Metroplex, sweeping Dallas, 3-0 in the finals. Both teams cruised through their respective round robins, but Wild Dallas was just too tough and did not drop a single line all weekend.

Wild Dallas was captained by Chrissie Barth and included: Isza Troncoso, Renetta White, Chesle Blair, Dagny Teiber, Barbara Hopkins, Linda McConnell, Suzanne Jones, Tracy Schlaegel and Martha Levinski.

Dallas also won the Ladies’ 2.5 championship with a tight, 2-1, win over a team from the Valley. Dallas won dominant all weekend, dropping only two lines all weekend over five matches.

The Dallas 2.5 ladies actually won the title on their home courts at High Point Tennis Center. The team included: Eve Liu, Kelli Sigler, Melissa Gladman, Monica Smart, Susie Schmitt, Christine Delph, Laura Ferlic-Stark, Jana West and Lynn Hord.

It may sound like a broken record, but Wild Dallas also captured the Ladies’ 3.0 title this weekend. After sweeping through their flight, Wild Dallas avenged a previous loss to Dallas, in the semifinals, 4-1, before edging Austin, 3-2, in the championship match. Austin snuck past Fort Worth, 3-2, in the other semifinal.

The ladies from Royal Oaks, captained by Colette Holman, included: Lacy Dienes, Julia Kane, Melissa Ryan, Lael Brodsky, Caroline Figueroa, Shelley Chrestman Bracken, Kendall Williams, Nazia Ahmed, Susan Scholes, Melissa Arbegast, Heidi Mast, Elizabeth Thomas, Rachel Polka, Carol Robertson, Marcia Beare, Anne-Marie Morrow, Gina Waco, Blair Moore, Teresa Schneider, Rita Bussell and Julie Parolisi.

Fort Worth stopped the Dallas sweep on the women’s side by earning the Ladies’ 3.5 crown. Fort Worth defeated Austin, 4-1, in the championship match. They reached the final by defeating Wild San Antonio, 4-1, in the semifinals. Austin defeated San Antonio, 3-2, in the other semifinal.

Melinda Pettigrew captained this team out of the Southlake Tennis Center. Team members included: Shannon Darrah, Karen Herd, Nicole Reilley, Molly Kathryn Moses, Judy MacMillan, Dusti Kuehne, Sue Phillips, Jeanne Ellermeyer, Angela Jones, Alison Ortiz, Kay Gaskill, Kelli Brady, Lisa Blakeman, Rebecca Schragin, Lisa Holderness and Mary Clark.

The Northeast Texas Men’s 2.5 team from Tyler won a best-of-three series over Austin to earn the title and advance to nationals. The team, which plays out of Hollytree Country Club, included: James Lowden, Greg White, Eric Woodard, Kyle Lindekugel, Brad Box, Charles Drane and Brian Robinson.

Laredo swept a six-team round robin to claim the Men’s 3.0 League Championship. Laredo snuck a 3-2 win over second place Northeast Texas early on Friday and rode that momentum all the way home.

Alejandro Garza was the team’s captain which included: Alfredo Casso, Luis Montesdeoca, Carlos Trevino, Diego Hernandez, Oscar Torres, victor Munoz, Manuel Rechy, Jose Vasquez and Rafael Miner.

Dallas got back into the winners’ circle, as Bob Bender’s Men’s 3.5 team won the title once again. Dallas defeated Northeast Texas 4-1 in the semifinals, then finished off Houston by the same score for the championship. Houston beat San Antonio, 4-1, in the other semifinal on Sunday.

The team included: William Kaiser, Sachin Moghe, Jeffrey Bender, Milan Morriswala, Chau Truong, Rene Alejandro Cuevas, Tony Monk, Matthew Schlosser, Steven Nguyen, William Toney, Mayis Kirakosyan, Berco Neiman and Paul To.
