USTA texas Presents Annual Community Tennis Awards

On Saturday, January 16, the United States Tennis Association - Texas presented its annual Community Tennis Awards at the 2010 Regional Community Tennis Development Workshop held at the Airport Hilton in Austin.
 
The Brazos Valley Tennis Association of Bryan-College Station (Revitalized Superstar Community Tennis Association), Northeast Texas Tennis Coalition (CTA Expansion Plan Star), Vickie Jennings of Houston (Jr. Team Tennis Coordinator of the Year), Cynthia Planas of Mansfield (Jr. Team Tennis Rookie Coordinator of the Year), the Texas State University Tennis Club (Tennis on Campus Club of the Year),  Matt McCleary of Alvarado (No-Cut Coach of the Year), Cotton Creek Club of Fort Worth (QuickStart Tennis Facility of the Year), the Giammalva Racquet Club Staff of Spring (QuickStart Program of the Year), Houston Tennis Association (USTA Texas NJTL of the Year), Stephen Salazar of Midland (NJTL Coach of the Year), Fort Worth Parks & Community Service (New NJTL Chapter of the Year), Ona Lee Johnson of Amarillo (Whataburger Volunteer of the Year) and Chuck Roper of Jacksonville (Whataburger P.E. Specialist of the Year) were all recognized for their contributions to tennis.

“Community Tennis Associations and USTA program coordinators are the grassroots leaders in our effort to grow the game of tennis,” said workshop director Kristi Hotz, who is the Assistant Director of Community Development at USTA Texas. “These winners are the cream of the crop and have worked tireless hours within their local communities to bring tennis to the masses.”

The 2010 Regional Community Tennis Development Workshop highlights included non-profit expert, Bob Harris, leading sessions on Board Roles and Strategic Planning for CTAs and USTA National Chief Diversity Officer, Kevin Clayton, who presented the national tennis vision as it related to this year's workshop theme: "I Have a Dream - and a RACQUET".
