2017 Texas TOC Champions Crowned

Texas A&M took home the 2017 USTA Texas Tennis on Campus Championship on Saturday, February 18, defeating the University of Texas in a tightly contested final.Tristan Thomas of Texas State, this year's TOC Leader of the Year 

Six schools earned an automatic bid to the USTA National Campus in Orlando from April 13 to 15. Joining Texas A&M at Nationals will be the University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, University of Texas at Arlington, Rice University and the University of Houston. For Texas State and UT-Arlington, it will be their first trip to Nationals.

Pool play began on Friday, February 17 at noon under sunny skies at the UT Whitaker Tennis Facility and Austin Tennis Center. However, due to the threat of rain on Sunday, all matches were completed on Saturday, with the Aggies getting the title under the lights. 474 players came out this year, with 57 teams representing 25 schools.

While Texas A&M as a team came in first, the school’s Do It Big won the Gold Draw. Team No Strings Attached of Texas A&M Corpus Christi won the Silver Draw, Team UD Not UTD of University of Dallas won the Bronze Draw and Team #Dontgetcaughtslippin won the Copper Draw.

Tristan Thomas of Texas State University was named this season’s TOC Leader of the Year. The University of Texas at Austin won the TOC Club of the Year.TOC Team of the Year UT

A team bag was given to all captains with TOC Section Championship shirts, Whataburger coupons, informational folder and a captain’s gift.

Spin wheel for prizes in return for the player’s non-school email addresses included:

  • Whataburger prizes
  • TOC Bags
  • USTA League koozies
  • TOC Towels

Tennis On Campus sponsors this year included Whataburger and HEAD/PENN. Cliff Drysdale Tennis provided a prize court and a racquet drawing.
