To him, it is more than just a first name. It is a town where he has dominated Conference 2A tennis for the last four years. This week Austin Klores of Franklin joined an elite few in winning his fourth straight UIL 2A singles title. Congratulations to all that competed.
Team Ageless of Austin, showed they were exactly that, winning the 2007 Women’s 7.0 Super Senior League Tennis National Championship held in Mobile, Alabama April 25-27, 2008.
Top seeded Harry Fowler of Houston captured his first-ever ITF title, prevailing in the finals of the Hawaii International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Tournament, presented by the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section and the City and County of Honolulu, a grade 4 event. The event was held at the Patsy. T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex, April 28 – May 3, 2008.
The USTA announced that in celebration of May as National Tennis Month the USTA will once again hold “Tennis Block Parties” – a nationwide series of tennis festivals to increase tennis participation in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Tennis Hall of Famer Martina Navratilova will kickoff May in New York City with media appearances on May 1st to help promote the community tennis initiative. The eleventh year of Tennis Month comes at a great time for tennis with participation topping the 25 million mark for the first time since the 1990’s. This year for the first time over 200 “Tennis Block Parties” are scheduled across the country.
The USTA honored the Houston Racquet Club in Houston, Texas as the 2008 USTA Member Organization of the Year. The award is given annually to an organization that provides outstanding service to its members and the local community.
The University of Texas beat California-Berkeley, 22-16, in Saturday’s championship match at the 2008 USTA National Campus Championship presented by Tennis Warehouse at the Cary Tennis Park, keeping the title in Texas for a fifth-straight year.
Texas A&M head men's tennis coach Steve Denton was selected as one of nine members of the 2008 College Tennis Hall of Fame class, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced.
